I rarely promote beauty products and do not ever wish to promote the idea that we are anything less than beautiful and amazing in our own design.  But I am still a girl and enjoy occasional beauty products as long as they adhere to a pretty tall order of requirements:

  • 100% natural active ingredients
  • No animal testing whatsoever
  • Biodegradable packaging
  • Vegetarian/Vegan

I learned about through another website which I occasionally write a guest blog for:  They are a socially and ethically responsible website for beauty products.  They carefully edit their product choices, list all of the ingredients and offer a great sample program.  One of the brands that they offer is Trilogy.  It meets my criteria for a beauty product and Focus Organic is running a promotional contest that offers free Trilogy products.  Click here if you would like to check out the contest.  It is fairly easy to enter and expires September 5th, 2009!

Settling In July 30, 2009

Filed under: Celebrate,Gotta Have It!,Sewing the Seeds — Simple Jess @ 2:09 am

Well, even though Mr. Nagel is away, we are settling into our new home day by day. The community here is so welcoming and kind. I have already met a lot of new people and the boys have made several new friends. One of our next door neighbors is also a young military family and they have two young boys as well. Little did we know we would have built in playmates upon arrival!

One of their boys had a birthday party at the pool on Saturday and it was an adorable celebration. I have to give props to my neighbor, Katie, since she is due to have her third child 2 weeks from now. Her pirate and treasure themed bash was simple yet very special with a couple of very unique touches: a combination that we love here at Sustainable Halo. The kids got to battle over gold coins and don bead necklaces as they splashed away the afternoon heat. One thing in particular that she did was special order pirate cupcake toppers from Etsy and had them customized. I do not know how she did all of this in her final days of pregnancy. It was simply amazing! Check out the seller, they are VERY cute. Etsy can be a bit of an obsession, but its worthy, especially because you know you are supporting the handmade community.

I am grateful for my new friends and community as a whole.

Tesla electric car! May 4, 2009

It is very early in the morning so I might still be dreaming. I am in love with the Tesla electric car! It is completely electric with solar options on the horizon. You can travel 250 miles on a full charge, in virtually silent luxury. What a car! It really is a luxury so I will set my sights on a more realistic purchase and continue to lust after my dream cargo bike.

If you would like to do a little dreaming, check out this video of the new Tesla:

Their official website has a great blog which also shows the Model S, a little closer to my price range but will be saving for awhile:)

Daring to dream,

VOTIVO – Red Currant April 28, 2009

Filed under: Gotta Have It! — Lauren @ 5:29 pm

The love of my life LOVES for our home to smell yummy.  I mean really yummy.  He’s the type that can pick a Victoria’s Secret frangrance off a waitress that walks by and once said (ok, he has said this many times) “I want our home to smell like Bath and Body Works”.  We’ve barely moved into our new home, still, I’ve been charged with making the house smell great!

So, I set out on a journey of finding a delicious fragrance that met my standards for subtlety while achieving a distinct, fresh scent for our home.  I’ve looked high and low and am proud to say I’ve found the perfect fragrance in Votivo’s Red Currant candles and reed diffuser!

Votivo describes the scent as “a savory blend of tart red currants and golden fruit glaze ladled over coarsely ground vanilla bean ice cream and served along side of raspberry filled sugar cookies”  I could easily sum it up as perfect, classic, rich yet far from overbearing, truly a year-round frangrance that creates instant ambiance.

As spring settles in around us and the opportunity for wide open windows presents itself day and day, I take great pleasure in the red currant fragrance that accompanies fresh air circulating throughout our home.

Reunite with your bicycle! April 23, 2009

Filed under: Gotta Have It! — Simple Jess @ 1:09 pm

Have you ridden a bicycle recently? Some of you surely have but I am convinced that far too few Halos are out there on their bikes very often.

Here is a ride so sweet and all purpose that you will have no excuse not to hop on and let the wind blow through your hair…the new Eco blow out!

I want one of these so bad! Bad to the bone! Bad like Michael Jackson! Bad, Jessica, stop it. I really want it:)

Madsen Cycles Cargo Bikes

This bicycle is great if you live in your city or village but if you live in the burbs, do not discount the value of such a ride. How often do you find yourself going over to friend’s house for coffee or a party and you drive the short distance because you are bringing a dish, gift, a kid or two, etc? This bicycle is perfect for you too! Before you know it, you will set a trend in your neighborhood and perhaps just change the world! Go for it!

Love and light,
